Dear [Recipient first name],

End of Statutory Sick Pay Entitlement

We are writing to confirm that your entitlement to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) will end on [date].

Under current legislation, SSP can normally be paid for a maximum of 28 weeks in any period of sickness absence, provided the statutory eligibility conditions are met. From April 2026, SSP is payable at the lower of £123.25 per week or 80% of average weekly earnings. You have now reached the maximum period for which SSP can be paid.

The periods of absence which have contributed to this are listed below:

[Insert absence dates]

We will provide you with form SSP1, which confirms that your SSP entitlement has ended and may allow you to apply for other financial support.

If you remain unfit for work after your SSP has ended, you may wish to contact the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to explore whether you may be entitled to benefits such as Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit.

Please note that the end of SSP does not affect your employment status. However, if your absence continues, we will need to keep the situation under review and may need to consider your ongoing fitness for work and the operational needs of the organisation.

Please continue to keep us informed of your progress and provide medical certification where required. If appropriate, we may seek further medical advice or arrange a meeting with you to discuss your situation and any support that may assist your return to work.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your circumstances, please contact the HR team.

We wish you a full and speedy recovery.

Yours [faithfully | sincerely],
